You’ve probably heard it before, “fast fashion is bad” or “you should shop at sustainable brands” and you might not understand why, or what that even means?
In this blog post, I’m going to break down three simple reasons why you should shift your mindset, towards sustainable shopping. Or, in other words, buy your clothes from brands that protect the planet and their workers.
1.) You Will Feel Free – When you truly decide to become a more ethical shopper, you understand that you don’t need new clothes every other day. You know the importance of a capsule wardrobe, and truly appreciate the pieces already in your closet. Instead of owning 20 sweaters you’ve only worn twice, you have 3 sweaters you love and cherish. This minimalist mindset, will actually take away stress and increase your quality of life when you decide to let go of materialistic or excess of things.
2.) Your Clothes Will Last Longer – Investing in garments made from natural fibers will actually extend the lifespan of your clothing. This is because natural fibers such as cotton, bamboo and silk are higher quality and aren’t chemically made. Fast fashion companies often utilize synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon and elastane. They do this because they know these materials will break down quicker in the wash, resulting in the consumer coming back to purchase new clothes again.
3.) You Will Save Money – You know what they say, when you buy cheap….you buy twice! Investing in ethically made clothing items now, will result in decreased spending habits and longer use of each garment. Together, you will end up saving more money in the long haul than if you shopped at fast fashion retailers.
And get this….those 3 reasons as to why you should shop sustainably don’t even begin to touch on the AMAZING things it will do for the planet, eco system, and hard working humans out there making your clothing.
