Hey everyone! So…I’ve kinda been biting my tongue on some preeeeetty exciting news that I am SO excited I can finally share with everybody!

A couple months ago, in the midst of finals, I applied for the second year in a row for a fashion bootcamp program in which emerging designers learn the ins and outs of what it takes to run their own clothing company successfully. It’s a 4 month long program which ends in a giant fashion show……you might’ve heard of it, it’s Phoenix Fashion Week, and unlike last year, this year I MADE IT!

I competed against over 300 other global applicants to get one of the16 designer spots, and at the end of the 4 month program, one designer will be named Phoenix Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer of the Year.

Soooooooo what exactly will this look like? (Trust me, I don’t even fully know yet!)

But what I do know, is that this summer will be hard. So far it’s consisted of coming home after my 9-5 design internship everyday and working on my line until I fall asleep, and then waking up and doing the same the next day. It’s looked like taking the emotional and financial leap to go fully into production. It’s also looked like contacting fabric mills and production facilities. It’s been really sitting down and figuring out who I am as a designer, what I want to design, and who I want to design for.

It’ll also look like remote challenges throughout the summer where I’ll be competing against other designers and pushing myself as a businesswoman. It’ll look like all the accounting and logistical things that kinddddd of make my head hurt to think about, but also excites my soul more than anything else.

It’ll also look like a few educational trips out to Arizona (I’m writing this on the plane as we speak!) It’ll mean staying with my family in Arizona, and reconnecting with my birth state. The state where I’m from, and lived, and where my dad lived, and where my dad died.

(You know—it doesn’t surprise me that God’s brought me home to Arizona to produce my fashion line and take the next step in my career. Arizona reminds me of my dad, and my dad is my motivation to design clothing in the first place.)

I’m beyond excited for this summer long fashion bootcamp/competition. It will be a lot of hard work—and I’m ready to dig into it!

Phoenix Fashion Week says it’ll take us designers 100 days to successfully launch our lines……who’s ready to tune in throughout the summer and follow along with me?!

Until next time,
